To make a classic white cake you will need:

-1 cup (2 sticks) of butter, softened
-2 cups of sugar
-4 eggs
-2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
-2 cups of all-purpose flour
-2 teaspoons of baking powder
-1 cup of milk
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
3. Combine the flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture, and mix until just blended. Finally, stir in the milk until batter is smooth.
4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
