If you’re looking for a classic cake recipe that will make everyone happy, you can’t go wrong with a simple white cake. This vanilla cake recipe is one of the most popular cakes recipes out there, and it’s easy to make too!
To start, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans and set aside.
In a large bowl, beat together one cup (2 sticks) of butter and 2 cups of sugar until light and fluffy. Then add 4 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
In a separate bowl, sift together 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Alternate adding the dry ingredients and 1 cup of milk to the butter and sugar mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Beat until just combined.
Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix until combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of each cake comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cakes are cool, you can frost them as desired. This classic white cake is great with chocolate, buttercream, or cream cheese frosting.
