To begin, preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch round cake pan. In a medium bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Then, add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix until combined.

Next, add half of the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir until just combined. Pour in 1/2 cup of milk and stir until combined. Add the remaining flour mixture and stir until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it onto a cooling rack. Once the cake has cooled completely, it’s ready to be decorated. Enjoy!
